Wildfowl

Several species of wildfowl have been sound-recorded migrating over Leicestershire & Rutland at night.

 Common Scoter

In recent years night-time sound-recording has shown that Common Scoter makes an overland migration crossing England in late March and early April. Members of our small group have had great success in get recordings of this species.

This species has a distinctive call and sonogram. The calls on the sonogram typically look like small commas and the call has a frequency of around 1.5khz or a fraction higher.
